The author of seven award-winning books on Hispanic and Western arts and culture, his latest book, Borderlands, the Story of Hispanics in the American Southwest, is being published for Colorado's 150th anniversary in 2026. It tells the powerful history of the Hispanic Southwest, stretching from Spain’s earliest explorations of the Americas to Mexico’s settlement of the northern frontier that became today’s American Southwest.
